“A former technician who worked for Hart InterCivic — a voting machine company based in Texas — has alleged that his company lied to election officials about the accuracy, testing, reliability and security of its voting machines. The whistleblower says the company did so because it was eager to obtain some of the approximately $4 billion in federal funds that Congress allocated to states in 2002 to purchase new voting equipment under the Help America Vote Act (aka HAVA).”

So, here is just one (or two) more reasons to use paper ballots for all elections. Read the whole article though, if the whistle-blower is telling the truth this just adds more fuel to the fire.

Voting machine flap is kind of old hat. It was brought to voters’ attention that Diebold had donated a very large sum of money to the republican party, but nobody seemed to care. And people were protesting the easy ability for Diebold to futz with the results.
(Like that would ever happen!)
This was over 4 years ago. When I mentioned that perhaps they were crooked, people labeled me as a kook.
Paper ballots, yeah.
Except in Florida.

yeah no kidding, i personally loved this video of them hacking it. what gets me is (like you said) people look at us like we are crazy, but what really scares me are the people who still don’t even realize this is taking place.

I must say that right now, even the notoriously right wing Bangor Daily News is calling for Bush’s impeachment.
In Kennebunkport, Bush senior’s town, citizens are trying to indict them so that GW won’t be able to visit his daddy.
And there’s a town in Vermont that has already done that, so if Bush or Cheney go there, they will be arrested.
(LOL…I wonder if they would have to arrest the secret servous guys, too….?)
What a bizarre society we have.
